The Project Engineer collaborates closely with Test Engineering, Data Acquisition and Control (DAC), Maintenance, and Operations teams to efficiently and effectively lead installation and process improvement projects within the Testing and Applied Sciences Departments. The Project Engineer will also actively work with stakeholder groups to identify, design and implement process improvement and efficiency opportunities within the organization. Ultimately, the Project Engineer will support the overall Testing mission to provide high quality, cost-effective, and timely testing solutions to demonstrate the performance and value of Lubrizol products.


Engineering Support and Project Management

  • Utilize Project Management tools and processes to ensure that all projects have established deliverables, milestones, dates, and budgets, and that these priorities are effectively managed and communicated during project execution.

  • Coordinate with stakeholders and resource groups to ensure that priorities are understood, and that activities and tasks are completed in a timely and effective manner.

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of test stand requirements for lubricant product development and product differentiation.

  • Develop a solid understanding of test operations and identify opportunities for process improvement, efficiency gains, and cost reductions.

  • Collaborate and share best practices with peers within the TCEM group, other relevant departments at the Wickliffe site, as well as other global testing locations and outside testing locations as appropriate.

  • Provide regular updates to Mechanical Testing Engineers, the Department Management Team, and other stakeholders on technical and project achievements as well as issues or obstacles.

  • Apply engineering skills and knowledge in the development of new tests and standardizing and improving test stand builds and modifications, including design/specification of heat exchangers, valves, pumps, piping systems and associated control loops.

  • Apply financial knowledge and methods to evaluate testing opportunities and strategies to support the business while maximizing utilization of testing assets and return on capital investments, and ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives.

  • Prepare and submit requests for capital including detailed scopes, cost estimates and all other required documentation.

Support Testing Division and Mechanical Testing Department goals

  • Track relevant Division and Department and groups goals and the progress against them.

  • Support processes that ensure operating flexibility in response to customer needs.

  • Utilize and actively participate in continuous improvement processes and initiatives, such as LEAN and problem solving methodologies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization.

  • Collaborate with laboratory operations, test engineers, maintenance and other resources to ensure optimum test performance.

  • Partner across technology groups and testing division, striving for consistency in processes and resource sharing when practical.

Ideal candidate profile:

  • BS or MS Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.

  • 5-7 Years of related technical experience, including process engineering/design.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project (SAP experience a plus)

  • •Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Project Management experience, with an established track record of successful execution. Project management experience must be in engineering or construction.

  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and chemical processes; define problems, collect and analyze data, establish causation, and implement corrective or improvement actions.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills with colleagues and customers.

Decision Making

  • Be able to conduct data analysis and provide conclusions and/or recommendations for improvement in the test area. Provide clear, concise and timely reports reviewing the relevant details, status and results.

  • Keep management aware of all significant information and issues related to their work.

  • Manage project work in a financially responsible manner by balancing expenses against revenues and by determining return on investments.
