Independently formulates and tests products for market segments served by digital ink products. Products include formulated inks and coatings. This individual must also possess and promote an understanding of product design-performance interrelationships, including the chemistry, engineering and physics of formulated inks. This role will require extensive travel to New Hampshire and Niles, Illinois in the first 6 - 8 months. Ongoing this role will require up to 15% travel.
Become a technical lead for Avery Dennison’s new wide format digital printing platform, TrafficJet, built specifically for the traffic sign industry.
Lead development and qualification of next generation digital printing products.
Manage multiple product development projects, focused on ink-jet inks design and improvement, while achieving targeted costs, project timing, and customer and regulatory specifications.
Identify and evaluate suppliers for critical ink components including, pigments, pigment dispersions, solvents, etc.
Act as a key integrator at business unit level between functions and regions including product development, purchasing, operations, supply chain, quality and marketing to deliver projects.
Short-term troubleshooting to address customer complaints, as well as performance refinement needs
Work closely with commercial teams in the design and development of new products, including VOC analysis, CTQ-mapping and cost-benefit analysis.
Identify new products, technologies, suppliers and materials.
Utilize Enterprise Lean Sigma (ELS) tools and methodologies and follow the stage gate process in product development projects
Develop and execute ECRs/trials at the plants in support of the development of new or modified products.
Provide technical leadership in the area of inks, dispersions, polymer resins, pigments, additives, inhibitors, etc.
Support and lead lab testing, like accelerated weathering of polymers, adhesive testing, chemical analysis, printing, etc.
Follow all corporate safety policies and procedures. Practice good housekeeping and proper safety procedures in accordance to company standards
Extensive travel to New Hampshire and Niles, Illinois will be required in the first 6 - 8 months.
M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Engineering or related field
5 to 7 years of experience in inks or printing industry.
Experience with designing ink for ink-jet applications – eco-solvent, solvent, water-based, or UV.
Basic knowledge of pigment and/or dye formulations used in the design of digital inks.
Familiarity with wide format digital printing and related equipment such as laminators, electronic plotters and cutters.
Some experience with polymer additives, particularly dyes/pigments and functional additives.
