Cleveland State University:
Cleveland State University opened the 120,000 square foot state-of-the-art Student Recreation Center in August 2006. Cleveland State University is a comprehensive metropolitan university committed to providing a high-quality education to students with diverse backgrounds, experiences, interests and needs. Located in downtown Cleveland, with extended campus locations in Westlake and Solon, the University offers degrees in 117 undergraduate and graduate programs. Approximately 17,000 students attend CSU. 1250 students live on-campus and there are close to 1,000 additional students living in the immediate area. Additionally, there are approximately 2,500 full and part-time faculty and staff employed by the University.
All Campus Recreation Services staff are employees of Centers L.L.C., which manages the facility, programs and services for Cleveland State University. Centers is a private management company that is providing management services to Cleveland State University, DePaul University, Marshall University, University of New Haven, University of Alabama Birmingham, Morraine Valley Community College, University of Missouri-St. Louis, and Jackson State University. Centers is devoted to the service of mission-oriented, not-for-profit organizations; its purpose is to deliver quality services and manage the facilities on behalf of the client.
The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading multiple group fitness classes that range in variety and levels of ability from Yoga to H.I.I.T. This includes, verbal, visual, and kinesthetic cueing, creating and organizing choreography, and much more.
Safely instruct an effective, creative, and fun group fitness class at the Recreation Center.
Promote knowledge of proper group fitness components. i.e. warm-up, aerobic exercise, cool down, flexibility, etc.
Provide quality customer service to all participants in class, regardless of fitness level, appearance, or otherwise.
Communicate effectively with supervisor through phone, email, or in person.
Enforce all program policies and procedures as it pertains to the class.
Attend all Group Fitness and all department staff meetings.
Market group fitness classes and programs to Recreation Center members, CSU affiliates, and surrounding community
Enforce all building policies and procedures and assist as needed during emergencies.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possess and maintain current primary group fitness certification (i.e. ACSM, ACE, or AFAA).
Leadership and supervisory abilities.
Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm.
Ability to work independently.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyles.
Proficiency with audio/visual equipment.
Proficiency with fitness equipment including but not limited to BOSU Balance Trainers, Keiser M3 bicycles, Gliding Discs, free weights, resistance tubing, and stability balls.
Proficient with group exercise progressions and regressions.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Knowledge of standard practices in recreational sports.
Office environment/fitness center environment
